Have you heard about HR 875? This a a new bill that would effectively criminalize organic and backyard farming. It's sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro D-CT., the wife of Stan Greenberg, a political consultant for Monsanto. Like the CPSIA, this bill is cloaked under the cover of "safety for our children", but is really just another way to put the small farmers out of business. You can read about it here, or look at the actual bill here. When I think about this new bill, I'm reminded of Michael Pollen when he said, "Eating is a Political Act". The alternative food movement has been gaining momentum over the past few years and there are some who will do whatever they can to stop it. We need our small, local, family farms and I'm concerned about this threat to them. To write to your representative, click here.
