It's crazy. A hurricane is headed to the Northeast. Unfortunately, what we are doing will probably be impacted by this rain headed our way. What we are doing, is not what they recommend when a hurricane is on the way to your neighborhood. Remember I told you that we are putting in a new kitchen? Well, we found a few extra problems during this process...and this is what we are doing now! Well, not me, but, Randy. Having a carpenter in the family certainly has its benefits. Getting your work done on your home, in a timely matter...this is not one of them.
There is Maude...watching.
We debated about putting a metal roof on. There are definite pluses to putting one on. Long life is a serious plus when you're in mid-life. Another would be rain water catchment. A third is it's a bit cheaper than wood shingles. Lastly, it's mostly easier and quicker than a wood shingled roof. We couldn't put this off any longer. The signs were there...water leaking. More signs...water pouring in last week during a huge rain storm. So, a wood shingled roof it is. We can put it up piecemeal. Of course we love the fairytale look of a wood shingled roof. At this moment actually a wood shingled roof is pretty much the same cost as asphalt as well. The difference for us is that the resident carpenter can put this up himself. Having someone put a wood shingled roof on your house would cost a huge amount of money otherwise.
Next, we need to paint this old house. I'm glad we live in a small house.
