Nature Tables, altars, seasonal tables...they are all essentially the same. It is a place to honor the seasons and nature connection. Some folks honor a spirit connection if they feel called to this. We have had nature tables in our home for many years. They tend to be fluid, focused on the season and perhaps what we might be connecting with at the time. We've had altars for loved ones that have passed on, tables that celebrate birthdays and holidays, tableaus for calling in energy for significant events that have happened in the world, blessing tables for new babies we know and altars for manifesting change in our lives. The tables I am most connected to are our nature tables. It is so magical to have a space in our home that honors the seasons. We can place special objects, plants, books, photos, cards, stones...whatever we are called to display that holds some meaning for us. One of the things I enjoy most about our nature tables is that they cause a sort of inbreath and pause...a taking in of the moment...as I stand in front of it or pass quickly by. It calls in a reminder of the importance of honoring the seasons passing, nature and spirit connections and the soul satisfying pleasure of a story layed out before our eyes. It is a place to let our imagination sink into and create that picture internally to carry us through they year.
I tend to have a Waldorf perspective on nature tables as we have been very connected to Steiner's Anthroposophy over the years. You might find some photos of waldorf homeschooler's tables inspiring in your journey to create a seasonal table in your home.
