::Vintage Dress::

I don't often post things here on journeyseeds, that  I have for sale in my etsy shop.  This dress from the 1800's was something I just had to show you.  It certainly has its flaws.  However, it's just gorgeous.  The seamstress that created this did a fabulous job.  I know a fair amount of you sew and would appreciate seeing this work...made so long ago. Wood Words with Josh Vogel

Often Etsy has inspiring videos on their blog for all of us sellers and buyers to be inspired by.  I wind up hitting repeat frequently.  I watch some of these videos with my family.  I find deep inspiration that comes from watching and hearing other artists.  This video with Josh Vogel is from Scout.  You will love it.

PoetryofObjects sells many things made from wood.  The feelings I have for the stories behind these objects is best described here by Josh.  When I travel about, looking for vintage treasures, I have a deep feeling for the workmanship that has gone into the creation of that object.  I think of the maker.  I think of the people that have used this object of beauty.  These words are worth returning to.  If you create anything...a family, a piece of art, craftwork, a styled setting with a story...you are embracing the brief moment in time of going backwards...and building your story into the very fabric of what you are creating.

This lovely lady is an old lithograph print called Opulence.  I think she is just gorgeous.  This beautifully done lithograph was made in the 1800's.  The frame is just as old.  I am using her as my new logo for PoetryofObjects...so, if you see her around the internet you'll know its me. 

 
Here is another old print that I found.  The colors on this are very vibrant.  I adore poppies of all colors...do they really come in yellow or is this just the artists obsession with poppies?  Again, the frame is also vintage from around the early 1900's.

More regular postings will be returning here at Journeyseeds.  Autumn is here and lots of new ideas are brewing.  This year has not turned out as I would have planned and hoped back in February.  However, new things have created other paths and I am happily pursuing those ideas at the moment.  Mostly this is realted to my brick and mortar as well as online shops selling vintage objects.  It has turned out it is not just "selling" that I am doing.  I am creating poetry for myself and my customers and that is exciting! Like most things that I do, I have tried to find ways to make this new business creative as well as embracing meaningful work for myself.  I can see the exciting potential of this going in many directions.  For a pisces girl, that is a good thing.

A terriffic old commode.  The top opens up with a big space inside.  There is that little  drawer to hold secrets.  The knob is from Anthropologie.  The bottom cupboard door opens to reveal a big space inside for storage as well.  The skinny mirror behind the roses is victorian.  I really like the faded and worn color on this piece.

 
Painting on the mirror top.  It would be nice to have the days spent reading outdoors!  While I fit this in sometimes it seems this woman does it on a regular basis.  She is really lovely I think.

 
This little fairy hangs on my wall right now.  I'm not sure I can let go of this one right now.

 
A few old pieces come together.  A jar with a vintage photograph, old crochet string, an old honey almond bottle.  In the front are shoe forms for a child size shoemaking project.

 
My daughter and I both spied this print.  We love the dark mood about it...autumn is whispering.

Today a beer making project is brewing.  Fresh hops harvested from their trellis spot, way up high in the sky will be added to this special brew.  I hope to snap a few photos to show a bit of the process that happens.  The brewmakers are getting to be pretty knowledgeable at this point.  I think they've been brewing beer for 5 or 6 years now.   I just love the smell of fresh hops!

music, vintage, summertime

Well, what can I say except that I've been plane old negligent.  This happened a few years back with this blog of mine.  I think because I was basically trapped indoors for winter and spring...when I've had the chance to be outside I've grabbed it.  My camera is on the fritz.  So, if I take any photos with my camera they'll have a weird dark blob in it.  If I borrow other folks like a daughter's or a husbands well I would be able to take a decent photo...at least to show you something....something other than these words.

My new little business is simply taking up alot of time!  More than I'd ever have thought.  I get to auctions, flea markets, tag sales, other places, go to my shop, list photos, edit photos, create listings, stay on top of it all...it's alot.  Those of you with Etsy shops are probably laughing by now....why, because you know it takes alot.  If you're selling vintage you were probably up at Brimfield this week. 

 
Remember these Gunne Sax dresses from the 1970's?  I didn't own one of these but, I had a similar dress that was shorter, white, lacey...a gunne sax.  I wore tall suede boots with it.  I loved that style.  All I needed was a horse...or a knight! The dress is for sale in my shop PoetryofObjects if you're interested.  If not, that's okay...I thought you might like to see a little of the clothing of my youth. 

We went to our favorite farm yesterday to hear some fantastic music.  We were there all day.  By the end of the night the music  was wild...and so was everyone that was there!  The music was loud, rocking, heady, funk-filled, jamming, slamming...a few of the words floating around yesterday.  I didn't have ear plugs in and I'm paying for it today.  We were all floating on the "vibes of love"...so said the owner and our friend.  I think we might have been. 

I hope you'll stay tuned to my blog here.  I've made some good friends with this blog.  I know few folks comment for some reason.  Sometimes it worries me.  I figure no one is reading.  But, then when I go to check there are some loyal followers and I want to thank you all for that.  You don't have to comment to be welcome here.  It makes me feel good if you do though!

We have more music coming up in the next few weeks.  I hope to get some photos of it all for you.  Summer means music to this family.  It always has and I hope it always will...

A friend posts about my little vintage corner

Heather from Beauty That Moves wrote a lovely post about my little corner of vintage.  Heather is always very supportive of what our family is up to.  I have not been posting lately due to a camera glitch.  There seems to be a dark spot that is "inside" the camera.  I am contemplating my next camera.  I have access to a point and shoot camera but, frankly I have just been remiss in keeping up with my blog.  The days have been so beautiful, luring me outside and ignoring the indoors.  After such a long and painful winter and springtime...I'm taking the time to enjoy the warm sunshine on my face. The weekend found us at the flea market, the farmers market, planting flowers, sitting by the fire, seeing some old friends, hearing about surfing adventures!

Vintage Traincases and a pair of fancy dancing shoes...off to contradance perhaps?  Well, no not me but, maybe soon...if I'm lucky right?  It's summer and it's time for dancing and time for music festivals.  I am trying to figure out how to get to a music festival we've gone to for 2o years...and if I COULD dance this summer, you better believe I'd be pounding the wooden dance floors with these stompers!  Balance and Swing sweetheart!

Etsy Finds & Flowers...

 

 
Yesterday PoetryofObjects made it into Etsy Finds, a daily newsletter of featured finds on Etsy.  This item made into Strawberries & Cream, a Treasury of sweet finds.  I was thrilled to say the least.  Auntemilie, from Vintage Lovers Team let me know about it.  Thanks so much Auntemilie!  Once again...how do flowers fit into vintage?  Well, not only are flowers often used as a motif in vintage objects...you can put a flower into a vintage teacup!

The flowers are blossoming everywhere.  It smells divine as my mother-in-law used to say with her head buried in a flower.  I miss her.  She was so amazing to be around while we talked about plants.  There are reminders of her everywhere here.  She gave me so many flowers over the years, she was here.  She is gone now...but, not from our hearts.  Walking around this land...I see my old plant friends again, like long lost friends not seen for a year.   Honeysuckle has gone by mostly, finished blooming...and it smelled...divine here.  Honeysuckle...the flower essence for homesickness.  You know that sort of melancholy feeling when you miss someone?  Well, the flowers and plants will always be there for you...just look and remember to take the time to sit with them.  They are as loyal a friend as one could have.  So, walk with me for a few steps and see what we see...

Bees in the hive...

It's been a few days and this post is going to be filled with lots of photos.  While some folks might find this a bit long, one of the reasons I also keep a blog is to keep track of the days and memories as they come to us.  So, please bear with me as I share some of our moments...
