Soul Collage®...Community Suit...Tasha Tudor
I am the one who is an artist in all things in my life. I follow my passions and honor the old traditional ways of art, farming and work. I am a beautiful woman that is a mentor for woman everywhere. I celebrate a creative way of living as an independent artist, craftswoman, shepherdess, cook, puppeteer, mother and grandmother. I collect old beautiful items to create a home that is filled with the vintage beauty of the past. I love to create little vignettes in my home and gardens that beckon my imaginagtion.
The Community Suit: The Communal Dimension
"The Community Suit is where you can honor "the other". The community suit of the SoulCollage® deck contains cards with images of real people and pets in your community. Here are the sentient beings who offer you the "net" of their love and wisdom, and also "net" you with their demands and challenges.
Select your Community Neters from among family ancestors, friends, teachers, healers, and pets. You may know these Beings personally, or you may only know them through their art, writing, or special deeds. They may be alive or dead. Liking them is not the major criteria for choosing a Community Neter. What you are claiming and honoring is their special kind of energy."
You may create your Community Suit over time. As your life evolves you will find new Neters that speak to you during that time. It is a reassuring exercise to draw a community suit card and travel with that person's energy for the day.
A few questions you might ask yourself in creating a Community Suit card are the following from SoulCollage®...
*Who inspires or encourages your deeper hopes and dreams?
*Name three teachers who imprinted your life in a valuable way.
*Of the great human beings from history whom would you like to consult about your life?
Seena's book has many examples of soul collage cards as well as descriptions that can help you focus on what you might like to collect for your community suit.
Anne Marie at Kaleidosoul shares some great reading as well as examples of cards and resources to help you foucus with the Community Suit.
I have been a member of Kaleidosoul for a number of years now. SoulCollage® has gone in and out of my life over the years. I am feeling particularly drawn to it right now as I am dealing with a health challenge. I find having the cards to focus with...creates something I can do in as much time as I'd like to devote to it. I can look at beautiful images and cut out pictures and photos when I am able. It isn't a big time committment or if one wants...you can take as much time as you'd like ,as well as put great intention into it. One day perhaps I feel like making a card right away and sift through images that I have saved. Another day an event or thought inspires me to create a card for that occassion. This is such a beautiful art because you are creating a picture story of your life and what is speaking to your soul at any one particular time. Sometimes creating cards can be serious and intentional...at other times, it is fun to make it more lighthearted, if that is what you need. One of the challenges I have with the actual creating of the cards is that the paper can wrinkle. It depends on the paper of the image. I think I may go to make photcopies of them and reglue them with heavier stock paper.
This card that I made today of Tasha Tudor represents a woman I admire greatly. I never did get to meet her. The closest I came was that a weaving friend of mine...we went to weaving school many years ago together in the 70's in Vermont...was a very close friend of Tasha's...Kate Smith. She is in the book that features Tasha's weaving and hearth cooking. Anyway, my daughter as a young girl greatly admired Tasha's books and lifestyle and so wanted to meet her. It didn't work out. We even made an old fashioned dress for her to meet her in. Tasha always felt woman should wear dresses. One year we even built little building/stands for my daughters birthday and she had a "tasha tudor birthday" imitating one of the birthdays in her books. So, that is the background of some of our love for this woman.
To me Tasha Tudor represents a way of life that I greatly admire and in many ways strive for ourselves. We do many of the traditional crafts and handwork of the past...knitting, spinning, creating mationettes and puppets, woodworking and carpentry, cooking , breadbaking....the domestic arts. I have always worn dresses/jumpers with pants/bloomers and love that flowing style of old clothing. We also garden here...growing herbs, vegetables and many kinds of flowers. I love Tasha's embracing of the traditional New England ways of living and admire that she supported herself and raised her children alone, with her artwork. Her imagination is inspiring to me as well. In particular I love her puppetry work as well as her little dollhouse vignettes. So..Tasha Tudor is a great heroine of mine. I made this card in her honor. I hope that it will remind me of her brilliance and great gifts she's left for all of us. This card came out crinkly...remember the problem I told you I have...but, I posted it anyway instead of waiting until I can make it perfect. Waiting for it to be perfect stops so many things from happening.
If you make soulcollage® cards and would like to link them in the comments section, I would love to see them. If you're looking for a vibrant community of soulcollage® creators...go over to Kaleidosoul and join up.
I tore out this page from MaryJane's Farm magazine...they have a nice article about Tasha Tudor this month.... and taped it to my wall next to the place I am spending alot of time lately. I love this image of her. Now, I just need to get some more chickens again and a few goats!
If you're new to soulcollage or just coming back to this practice...follow along with me on Sundays to see what I find...
I am the one that dances stories in your soul.
I am the one who lets you know you can always fly free.
Soul Collage was created by Seena Frost. Soul Collage ® is a process for accessing your intuition and creating an incredible deck of cards with deep personal meaning that will help you with life's questions and transitions. When you create a soul collage® deck you create a Story of You.
I am not a soul collage® facilitator at this time. I have been interested in doing this training for a long while now...however it hasn't fit into my story so far. I have worked with the soul collage® process for a number of years now on my own. I am a member of Kaleidosoul, a site dedicate to the process of soul collage®. This is a wonderful site for those of you that would like to pursue this process and also to connect with others engaging in this journey.
As a part of creating new content on Journeyseeds, I would like to create Soul Collage® Sunday. Here I will post a Soul Collage® card I've made for the week or share some information and links to others engaged in self-reflection and healing, using soul collage® as a part of that process. I am also very drawn to the process of soul collage® as a deeply creative process and hope to share some of my thoughts and resources in this area as well. Soul Collage® can be a beautiful process to use with flower essences. Through the personal work with flower essences and plant medicine...taking a creative step toward manifesting what is going on internally with a soul filled image that you create...a beautiful and powerful story will unfold before you...Story Medicine. Perhaps you'll join in and leave a link to your soul collage®process in the comments section. I'd love to see what your journey looks like....
My creative daughter dressed up our windows with a valentine garland...she finger knitted the garland with wool and then cut out paper bag hearts and hung them along the garland. We hung festive lights and we now have a sweet window to look out at the birds.
I love February....candlemas, valentines day, loads of birthdays in our family and occasionally the chance to take a Big Leap on some years! Not everyone loves Valentines Day because the think it's contrived or a hallmark sort of holiday. It can be that if you look at it that way. It's also hard if you are alone without a sweetheart and it feels like everyone around you has a "valentine". I guess because I take the month as a sort of celebratory month of me...valentines day is more of a celebration for me...spreading the love around as well as to myself. So...take "heart" if you are not in a loving relationship with someone right now...you have yourself and that matters the most. A nice thing to do for Valentines Day is to make a soul collage or some sort or just a soul collage card. Make something that celebrates you...what you love, what your hopes are for....something or somebody you long or wish or desire after. Make an inspiration collage and hang it up for Valentines Day. Pick out beautiful images, ones that speak to you in some way. Maybe put a picture of yourself in the center. Take some time to think about where you are headed this year...what you want to celebrate or manifest for your life. Find some images that speak to you about this in some way. It will make you feel good when you look at it. You did something for yourself that holds deep meaning. May love manifest in you...
A recent soul collage card that I made...
Windows of color open
Layers of stained glass
Contemplating the spaces within
Books I'm reading to celebrate the month...
One of the things I'm thinking about is integration. How do I integrate all that I've gathered on this journey up 'til now and manifest it in the world? So much training, so many diverse interests...pulling it all together. How do you change things midlife? The world was one way a year ago and now financially the world is crashing around alot of folks...scrambling seems to be common. Long ago I took the Creativity Coaching Training with Eric Maisel...it was a really good experience and I worked through alot of ideas about creativity. One thing that was so important in that class was the awareness of constantly shifting...shifting ideas, priorities, expectations, hopes, disappointments, resolutions...you name it. If I can find a way to shift all the time...life can mutable. It's easy to look at something the same way...static.
Lightly the quiet bird settles
Winter heavy on the wing
New life, birth, beginning waits expectantly
A heart, heavy with the past
Flight is imagined
Soul Collage Card...tiny bird soul
After hibernating all winter long, loading the woodstove methodically round the clock...it's time to think of cleaning out. I have begun this in small ways. I'm sorting through books to give away, cleaning out the paper clutter, trying to decide about what projects to work on in our home. There is alot to do...
Home that I would love to live in...
