This vintage cupboard was a sweet find last year at the flea market.  We like to change the scene in here with whatever the season might be or if a special occassion inspires us to create a cupboad-scape.  The little cardboard houses were found at an auction in their original cardboard box.  The little gnomes are new additions this year.  Gnomes at this time of year just seem natural in any design.  The little elf on the bottom left is also new to our home and  he reminds me so much of childhood christmas's.  We had the classic green felt gnomes at our house, while this little fellow is golden glitter.

My husband knows what I like.  Handwork and crafts are an important part of our lives.  This new book by dottieangel is wonderful! Dottieangel, aka, Tif Fussell, is Vol. 2 in the Suitcase Series. I've been following dottieangel's blog for awhile now.  She has that granny chic style that she shares on her blog, along with stories about mossy shed and life with her children, one now grown and off at college.  She has two dogs, with one little Olive that naps in a vintage suitcase. For all of you vintage lovers, she has an airstream trailer in her backyard for her sewing studio, in which her sewing machine Ethel resides. I cannot resist sharing this sweet little vimeo about her...I just lover her!

Mollie Makes: Living & Loving Handmade!  I love this magazine from the UK.  It's a visual feast for the eyes if you love making things. 

Sibella Court's new book Nomad!  I was/am so excited.  A great book, beautiful photos, inspiration on every page, travel and adventure, lots of string and natural materials...what could be better?  I'll show you a few photos in case you have not seen it yet.








Okay, so that was more than a few.  I just can't help sharing how great this book is. I'll be adding it to our library of vintage visual beauty!

Steampunk Mannequin

This lovely steampunk mannequin is in the shop window of the antiques shop I display a small amount of my wares in.  The woman that made this makes small art dolls.  The owner of the shop asked her to create this doll out of a beautiful mannequin that she had in storage.  Isn't is beautiful?!

A closeup.  I just could not get a great view of her in the lens...so she's got electrical lines and glare...but, you can at least get a small idea of her.  Puppets, art dolls, marionettes, statues, scuptures...I just love the interpretations that artists create out of their very imagination! Mingle...a new magazine

Have you seen the new magazine Mingle, put out by Somerset?  It's filled with beautiful photography of gatherings and celebrations.  I love the ideas that come from looking at inspiring photography.  A magazine filled with lovely photos as well as ideas for celebrating...well, that's a great combination.  This is the time of year when so many of us are planning celebrations with friends and family...from the simple to the elaborate.  Here's a sample of  photos for you to dream over.

Story collectors have such a great time collecting things for celebrations at flea markets, antique shops or thrift stores.  It is so much fun to see what you can create with simple things...

Words on Wood

Often Etsy has inspiring videos on their blog for all of us sellers and buyers to be inspired by.  I wind up hitting repeat frequently.  I watch some of these videos with my family.  I find deep inspiration that comes from watching and hearing other artists.  This video with Josh Vogel is from Scout.  You will love it.

 PoetryofObjects sells many things made from wood.  The feelings I have for the stories behind these objects is best described here by Josh.  When I travel about, looking for vintage treasures, I have a deep feeling for the workmanship that has gone into the creation of that object.  I think of the maker.  I think of the people that have used this object of beauty.  These words are worth returning to.  If you create anything...a family, a piece of art, craftwork, a styled setting with a story...you are embracing the brief moment in time of going backwards...and building your story into the very fabric of what you are creating.

Poetry of Objects is so named because I love poetry.  I think all of life is a poem that we are all creating with each step, with each breath.  All of the artists are creating poetic works of art to me.  I see poems in the clouds.  I see poems in all of the worlds.  I can imagine PoetryofObjects creating a poem for environments, for ceremonies, for celebrations, for homes and spaces.  Today on Etsy Yokoo shares an inspiring video.  I love the line from the e.e.cummings poem that she quotes.  I've decided to add it the sidebar of my blog to remind me of her.  Here is the video if you haven't seen it.

a perfectly kept house...

As a seller and collector of vintage objects, I am always drawn to artistic books about homespaces.  Recently I purchased a new book by Mary Randolph Carter called, "a perfectly kept house is the sign of a misspent life."  I was lucky enough to get it at a reduced price because of a bit of damage on the book.  Well, this book is just beautiful to sit and browse through.  This book is about how to make your house a home filled with comfort, ambience, informality, personality, and a welcoming spirit - while living beautifully with all the things you love! I thought I'd show you some photos of the book to wet your appetite.

 

 
Since temperatures turned a bit chilly here in New England last night, alot of the photos I picked today are about baking.  Doesn't a chill in the air make you want to bake?   There is something about a well stocked kitchen panty that makes your house feel full up.
 
Another gorgeous kitchen, simple and beautiful.  I like the worn blue patina, the simple counters, the plants in a small bottle.  All easy things to create in your home.
 
An inspiration or mood board.  If any of you took Blogging Your Way with Holly Becker of Decor8 you will appreciate this great board in this office.  If you want to learn more about blogging, I highly recommend taking her course. 
 
Clutter up tips
 
Artwork is something I'm always drawn to.  This simple idea is easy to accomplish. 
 
A great journal idea.  Your home space is really a study about who you are, what you care about, where you are in your life....
 
A great kitchen.  See that warm pie on the counter.  You can tell I'm thinking about baking an apple pie. In New England its time to pick apples!  I love how the colors are bright and cheery.  Kitchens are our hearts.  Poetic food for the family.
 
Those of us that have alot of interests, curiosties, like to read books, play music...our houses tend to collect junk don't they?  I never see it as junk though...and if you are a creator of environments, you will agree with me, no?
 
Some photos of vintage clothing are included in one womans house.  Clothing displayed, instead of hidden away creates vignettes to inspire and gladden.

Frames are art in themselves.  These are easy to find at flea markets and vintage shops.
 
Perfect.  I like to think of how does my home feel instead of how does it look.  When we are having people over for a gathering, I'm known to say go my family..."how does it feel in here?"
